About Ruthie Moore

Ruthie Moore is a youth advocate, civic leader, and candidate for 8th Ward Alderman whose work is grounded in a simple belief: people should have a meaningful role in the decisions that shape their families, neighborhoods, and future.

Her experience spans education, youth development, civic engagement, organizational leadership, and community partnerships. Throughout her career, Ruthie has focused on expanding access to opportunity, helping people navigate complex systems, and bringing individuals and organizations together to solve problems and move ideas into action.

For more than six years, Ruthie has served as an elected member of her Local School Council. Working alongside families, educators, and school leaders has given her firsthand experience with how local decisions affect children, families, and the institutions they depend on. That service has strengthened her commitment to listening carefully, working across differences, and keeping the people most affected by a decision at the center of the conversation.

Her commitment to young people extends well beyond the school setting. Ruthie has led youth initiatives, trained educators and community partners, facilitated leadership development programs, and helped young people better understand government, public policy, and the role they can play in shaping their communities.

Ruthie has also worked with small businesses and emerging nonprofit organizations on strategic planning, organizational sustainability, leadership development, and access to resources. These experiences have strengthened her ability to bring different perspectives together, identify barriers, build partnerships, and develop practical paths forward.

A graduate of DePaul University, Ruthie earned a bachelor’s degree in Sociology with a concentration in Juvenile Justice and a minor in African and Black Diaspora Studies. She continues her connection to DePaul through service as immediate past president of the DePaul University Black Alumni Committee and is an active member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated’s Chicago Alumnae Chapter.

Ruthie is running for 8th Ward Alderman because she believes public service should be accessible, responsive, and connected to the people it serves. Residents should be able to reach their ward office, understand what is happening in their neighborhoods, participate meaningfully in important decisions, and know what happens next when they ask for help.

Her approach to leadership is rooted in listening, preparation, collaboration, and follow-through. As alderman, Ruthie will bring those values to the work of serving the 8th Ward and building a ward office residents can reach, understand, and rely on.

WE8 is a movement for the 8th Ward. It stands for a community where everyone has a seat at the table and a voice in the decisions that shape our neighborhoods. The bite in the 8 is a reminder that we can all eat.
